A Tribute to Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris
Notre-Dame de Paris (also called Notre Dame Cathedral) is one of the most famous Gothic cathedrals of the Middle Ages and is one of Paris’ most popular attractions. The idea for the cathedral was conceived in 1160 by the bishop of Paris, Maurice de Sully and in 1163, the foundation was finally laid by Pope Alexander III. The choir, western façade and the nave were completed by 1250 with the porches, chapels and other amazing embellishments added over the following 100 years.
Unfortunately, a major fire erupted at the cathedral in Paris on Monday, April 15th, devastating large parts of the 856-year-old church. The cathedral was undergoing renovations and has suffered colossal damages. While the cause of the fire is still unclear, French President Emmanuel Macron has promised Parisians that they will “rebuild this cathedral together” and over $700 million has already been donated for the project.

Recently, Travel Advisor Allison Roth sent her clients on a Viking cruise through Norway's stunning fjords and into the Arctic Circle - a journey in search of the magical Northern Lights. The journey began with an unexpected change of plans. As anyone who travels knows, the weather can be unpredictable, especially when sailing from Barcelona to the UK. Due to challenging weather conditions, the Viking Neptune was unable to dock at Tilbury for embarkation day. Instead of boarding at 11:00 AM as scheduled, guests were treated to a three-hour visit to an art museum in London before being transported to Portsmouth, where they embarked at 9:00 PM. While this meant missing the Amsterdam port stop entirely, Viking responded by providing compensation of $125 per person and refunding excursion costs. It's a good reminder that cruise lines like Viking work hard to accommodate guests when Mother Nature intervenes. Below is the review they shared with Allison about their incredible adventure.
