“Bleisure travel” is a travel trend that is quickly gaining more and more popularity. Employees are tacking extra days onto a business trip to make it a vacation. This is allowing people to save money on travel expenses and look forward to taking their next business trip. Bleisure travel is becoming very popular among millennial employees, but the trend has been seen across various generations.
According to the second annual State of Business Travel Survey by National Car Rental, 90 percent of Millennials have engaged in bleisure travel in the past year. Nearly half (49 percent) of Millennials say they’ve extended business travel into a leisure trip or scheduled a vacation around business travel to save on vacation costs.
The umbrella term "bleisure" means more than just additional days spent in a destination. Many employees will bring along their spouse, significant other and/or children when traveling for business. This gives them more time together, especially if they travel heavily for business throughout the year. Even taking some time to explore the city you're in can be considered bleisure travel. Next time you're on a business trip, try out a local restaurant or explore an area or attraction the city is known for!
The most important thing to remember before planning your next bleisure trip is discussing these plans with your boss and knowing your company's policies on business travel. Every company will have different policies, so make sure you are aware of all the do's and don'ts for your company!
